CA 49 Issa
Darrell Issa (R) represents California’s 49th congressional district where over 94,000 individuals, including 26,000 children, receive their health care coverage through the state exchange for Obamacare (ACA) and Medicaid expansion. Yet he voted 19 out of 19 times for ACA repeal to take away their health care. Maybe he forgot 68,000 of them are eligible voters. Let us remind him by spelling it out for him – and painting him a picture.
CA-49 covers the northern coastal areas of San Diego County, including the cities Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad and Encinitas, as well as a small portion of southern Orange County.
In the Presidential race, Hillary Clinton won this district by 7.5%. In the House race, Issa beat his opponent by 2,000 votes, helped in large part by some 13,000 Hillary voters crossing over.
A switch of 1,000 votes (half of 2,000) will defeat Issa in 2018. We can mobilize 81,000 Health Votes to defeat him.
- 13,000 crossover Hillary votes
- 33,000 ACA enrolled votes
- 35,000 Medicaid Expansion votes
- Total Health Vote: 81,000
With 81,000 Health Votes versus the 1,000 needed to defeat him, Issa’s Vulnerability Ratio is 81 (totally vulnerable).

Cut-and-paste suggested letter/email/Fax (personalizing helps):
Dear Honorable Representative Issa:
Congratulations on your recent election victory by a margin of 2,000 votes.
I am writing to you out of concern about your position on the Affordable Care Act.
If you vote to repeal the ACA, as you have done 19 times, and replace with the so-called AHCA, you will be jeopardizing the health and finances of over 94,000 of your constituents, including 26,000 children.
If compassion for their lives doesn’t sway you, let me remind you that 68,000 of these individuals are eligible voters. Combined with the 13,000 Hillary voters who crossed over to vote for you – and who strongly support Obamacare – 81,000 Health Votes may be mobilized against you, come 2018.
We hope you will do the right thing by your constituents and be a voice for their ongoing health and financial well-being by voting against ACA repeal and replacement by the so-called AHCA.
Sincerely,
(Your name here)
